Detailed Narrative
Revenue and Margin Trajectory
Standalone revenue for Q2 FY25 reached ₹4,790 crores, which management describes as a 'stable high plateau' following several quarters of rapid growth. EBITDA margins have structurally shifted from a historical 12-14% range to a robust 18-19% range, driven by improved capacity utilization and a strategic shift toward high-value-add products. Despite a marginal dip in percentage terms due to higher steel prices, management expects to maintain this 18-19% margin profile for the foreseeable future.
Significant Deleveraging and Financial Health
The company achieved a substantial reduction in debt, with consolidated total debt falling from ₹5,475 crores in the June quarter to ₹4,585 crores in September. Standalone total debt stands at ₹3,411 crores, and management noted that a large tranche of term loans was repaid after the quarter end, which will further reduce debt in Q3. This deleveraging is supported by the completion of high-working-capital export orders and the monetization of the rail wagon business.
Strategic Capacity Expansion and Debottlenecking
Jindal Saw is undertaking approximately ₹700-750 crores in capex over the next 2-3 years. Key projects include a ₹200 crore investment at the Nashik plant to increase seamless pipe capacity by 40-50% (to 3.5-4 lakh tons) and a ₹300-350 crore investment in a new, environment-friendly vertical push-based coke oven battery in Mundra. Additionally, ₹200 crores is allocated for DI pipe capacity expansion at Haresamudram to reach 3 lakh tons, positioning the company as a top producer in South and West India.
Order Book Dynamics and Export Strategy
The order book remains healthy at $1.61 billion, with tonnage increasing to 17.38 lakh tons from 16.17 lakh tons sequentially. While the export mix fell to 12% this quarter due to the timing of📎 project completions, management aims to return to a 20-25% mix. The company is focusing on the MENA region for water projects and is in the process of qualifying for the U.S. market with high-grade seamless and stainless products to avoid anti-dumping impacts.
Sectoral Demand Outlook
Demand in the water segment remains stable as state-level water grids and multilateral funding compensate for a plateau in the Jal Jeevan Mission. The oil and gas sector is robust, with deep-sea drilling on India's East Coast driving demand for high-grade pipes and premium connections. The company's joint venture with Hunting for premium threading is now fully operational and profitable, contributing to the bottom line in its first full year of operation.
