Strategic Review Process
GoPro's Board of Directors authorized a process in May to evaluate a potential sale of the company and other strategic alternatives to maximize shareholder value. The company has received inquiries from the defense, consumer, and financial sectors and is currently in the later stages of this process, which has the full support of CEO Nicholas Woodman.
Mission 1 Series Camera Launch
In Q2, GoPro delivered the Mission 1 series, opening preorders and shipping the new Mission 1 PRO and Mission 1 cameras in May. These cameras are available at GoPro.com and through global retail partners, including Best Buy, Walmart, B&H, and Adorama, with pricing starting at $499 for existing GoPro subscribers. The series has garnered significant praise and multiple Editors' Choice Awards from various tech publications.
New Accessories and Special Editions
GoPro expanded its Mission 1 Series lineup with new special editions and capability-expanding accessories. This includes the Mission 1 PRO Creator edition and Ultimate Creator edition, the Wireless Mic Complete Kit for professional audio, the Light Mod 2 for compact lighting, the Mission 1 Series Media Mod for input/output expansion, and the Volta 2 battery grip for extended recording and controls. These accessories are available globally later this month.
Upcoming Mission 1 PRO ILS Launch
The third camera in the Mission 1 Series, the Mission 1 PRO ILS, is set to launch in September. This specialized camera will support over 300 readily available Micro Four Thirds lenses and feature GoPro's HyperSmooth video stabilization in a small, durable 8K compact cinema camera. The launch will also include the new Mission Monitor App, providing live preview and professional monitoring tools for iPhone and iPad users.
GoPro Subscription Performance
The GoPro subscription continues to show strong performance, with a record subscriber attach rate of 69% in Q2, up from 54% in the same period last year. Subscriber retention remained consistent at 67%. The subscription offers unlimited cloud storage, a mobile editing app, camera protection, and up to 50% off discounts at GoPro.com, contributing to high-margin recurring revenue.
AGV Motorcycle Helmet Partnership
GoPro is developing a tech-enabled motorcycle helmet with AGV, a leading Italian helmet brand, to expand its presence in the motorsports market. The development remains on track, having recently achieved ECE 22.06 safety standard compliance, a recognized advanced safety standard. The collaboration combines AGV's design and safety expertise with GoPro's engineering and digital imaging capabilities.
MAX2 Firmware Update
In June, GoPro released a major firmware update for its MAX2 360 camera, adding professional image quality improvements and expanded creative controls. These enhancements include professional 10-bit color with GP-Log, an increased 200 megabits per second bit rate in recording, and enhanced low-light controls. The MAX2 has received multiple accolades, including a third Emmy Award for technology and engineering for GoPro.
