Park Aerospace (PKE) Q2 FY27 earnings call: guidance and Q&A

Executive summary

Park Aerospace Q2 FY27 — Sales at upper end of range, EBITDA beat, missile mix rising, Tulsa/ArianeGroup build-out

Operationally solid quarter with execution above plan, but the narrative is capacity: Newton must stretch to carry GE commercial and missile ramps until Tulsa and ArianeGroup's US plant arrive. The trimmed GE annual outlook reflects customer ramp pace, not demand; management frames the ramp as intact and missile mix as the growth leg.

Highlights

5
  • Q2 sales $20,791,000, within the $19.5M-$21.0M estimate and toward the upper end; gross profit $7,135,000 at 34.3% gross margin

  • Adjusted EBITDA (non-GAAP) $5,285,000, a 25.4% margin, above the $4.3M-$5.1M estimate

  • Sales Value of Production $21.1M, a modern-day record post electronics sale

  • Missile systems sales $5.7M with share of mix growing; GE Aerospace jet engine program sales $8.5M

  • Cash and marketable securities $114.75M, zero long-term debt, 41 consecutive years of quarterly dividends

Concerns

5
  • FY27 GE engine program sales forecast cut to $32M-$35M from a higher prior figure, as customer bill plan looks too aggressive

  • Tax rate 18.6% in Q2 (1% in Q1) flattered by stock option benefits; normalized ~26.5% would put EPS near $0.19 vs $0.21

  • Tulsa capex spend pushed out: $10M in FY27 vs $25M previously guided

  • C919 ramp struggling; 777X certification still delayed

  • $65M Tulsa capex plus $25M ArianeGroup advances (plus working capital/start-up costs) draw down cash

Risks & headwinds

Customer ramp slower than bill plan (GE programs) FY27

FY27 GE forecast cut to $32M-$35M

Mitigation:More realistic Q4 assumption; ramp described as intact

Capacity bottleneck until Tulsa online Through FY28

Newton must be staffed aggressively for GE ramp and PAC-3 2,000/yr

Mitigation:Staff up Newton lines; Tulsa completes FY28, shipments FY29

C2B fabric supply dependence on ArianeGroup 2028+

French capacity inadequate alone for 2,000/yr; US plant ~4 years less 6 months

Mitigation:$25M advance payments; term sheet; definitive agreement by year-end

Cash draw and start-up costs FY27-FY29

$65M Tulsa capex + $25M advances vs $114.75M cash

Mitigation:Zero long-term debt; ATM proceeds raised

Program delays (COMAC C919, 777X) CY27

777X certification and first delivery expected next year after repeated delays

Mitigation:None stated

Tax rate benefit non-recurring Q2 FY27

18.6% vs ~26.5% normal; EPS $0.21 vs ~$0.19

Mitigation:n/a

Limited disclosure on military programs Ongoing

Q&A highlights

Are strong sequential and YoY missile growth levels sustainable or variable until ramp?

Shore believes it is sustainable, pointing to growth trajectory (~$10M/year pre-pandemic) and long way to go in both missile and GE programs ($62M juggernaut vs ~$31M last year).

“I think it is sustainable.”

Detailed narrative

Q2 results versus estimates

Sales landed within the $19.5M-$21.0M range given on the Q1 call, and adjusted EBITDA (non-GAAP) exceeded the $4.3M-$5.1M estimate. Management stressed it does not pad estimates. Sales Value of Production of $21.1M was called a modern-day record since the electronics sale, crediting factory staff. Key product groups: C2B Fabric $1.5M and Applied Materials programs using C2B Fabric $1.8M (close enough not to distort the P&L).

Tax rate and EPS color

Management, though it normally avoids EPS, flagged that Q2 tax rate was 18.6% (Q1 1%) due to stock option exercise benefits. Normal rate would be about 26.5%, implying EPS near $0.19 instead of $0.21. More detail will come in the 10-Q.

GE Aerospace commercial 'juggernaut'

Management declared the commercial aircraft juggernaut 'here'. Airbus delivered 4,741 A320neo family aircraft through August with 7,571 firm orders; YTD August deliveries exceed 333 in the comparison period. LEAP-1A share of firm engine orders was 66.9% as of June 30, with 8,546 firm LEAP-1A engine orders.

At 75 aircraft/month and 66.9% share, that implies about 1,204 LEAP engines/yr. COMAC C919 has over 1,200 reported orders but is ramping slowly; 777X has 1,700+ test flights, 4,000+ flight hours, 670+ orders. FY20 GE engine program sales were ~$29M and only recovered to ~$29M in FY26.

Missile systems and ArianeGroup

Missile systems share of the mix is growing. Context: reported depletion of Patriot stockpiles, Mar 2026 White House meeting of contractors agreeing to quadruple production of exquisite-class weapons, Lockheed's January 2026 seven-year DoD agreement raising PAC-3 MSE capacity from 600 to 2,000/yr, and DoD's $1B investment in L3Harris solid rocket motors.

Park is sole source qualified on PAC-3 MSE solid rocket motor ablatives using ArianeGroup's C2B fabric. Park's 2022 business partner agreement makes it exclusive North American distributor; Mar 27, 2025 agreement involved advancing €4,587,000. The third installment is being paid next month, accelerated from April next year, in exchange for pulling in allocation.

US C2B plant term sheet

On July 18 Park and ArianeGroup signed a term sheet for a US-based C2B plant, 100% of output allocated to Park, with capacity unspecified but more than adequate for PAC-3 at 2,000/yr. Park commits $25M of advance payments (not equity/debt), now $20M this year and $5M next, applied against fabric purchases from the beginning of 2030; Park expects to buy significant fabric 2032-2036.

Original build time ~4 years was accelerated by six months. Management says additional money cannot materially speed it further. ROI not disclosed but called a very good deal.

Tulsa plant and Newton bridge

Lease signed July 17 for 18 acres at Tulsa International Airport; ~150,000 sq ft plant, $65M capex, to roughly double hot melt prepreg and film capacity and triple solution treating capacity. Completion in FY28, shipments FY29. Newton, Kansas lines will be staffed up to bridge, supporting GE ramp and PAC-3 at 2,000/yr, but Tulsa is needed for sustainable support.

Management says capex excludes working capital and start-up costs, which will be significant.

Capital and balance sheet

A $50M ATM program completed around June: 1,812,000 shares sold for $49,996,000 at an average $27.58. Park has zero long-term debt, and cash and marketable securities of $114.75M (transcript says 'end of 2017 second quarter', an ASR error for Q2 FY27).

$25M ArianeGroup advance eventually returns over four to five years. 41 consecutive years of quarterly dividends; $616.4M or $30.10 per share paid since start of FY2005.

Q&A: GE forecast cut

Analysts probed the trimmed FY27 GE engine forecast. Shore said it relies on a customer bill plan, implying a large Q4 jump; they are now being realistic, with Q4 similar to Q2/Q3, and not reading negative implications. He attributes the shortfall to customers' ability to ramp, not Park capacity or demand; C919 delay was not a big expectation anyway.
