Mutual fund analysis: which fund categories performed in Q2 FY27

Each category is every open-ended scheme that existed in it at each quarter-end — growth plans, and funds that later merged or closed still count in the quarters they lived through. Tap any cell to see the schemes behind it.

Median category return, over 1 year

Q2 FY27: 13 of 21 fund categories gained over 1 year; best Small Cap +13%, worst Large Cap −4%.

Each cell is the median 1-year return of the category’s schemes, measured at that quarter-end. “x of y up” counts the schemes whose figure rose — gained, not beat the market; the index comparison arrives with a benchmark TRI column. Growth-plan NAVs from AMFI; a scheme missing either end of the period has no cell.

≤ −40%−20%0+20%≥ +40% Blue is a gain, red a decline, grey about zero; the colour stops deepening at ±40%.

About these figures
  • Members: every open-ended scheme listed under the category in AMFI’s file of that quarter-end, one row per scheme (the Regular-Growth plan, the longest-running series). Index funds, ETFs, debt and fund-of-funds categories are kept out: the board compares actively managed schemes with each other.
  • The cell is the median scheme’s return, never weighted by fund size, so one giant fund cannot hide its category.
  • A fund that merged or wound up stays in the quarters it existed — no survivorship bias.
  • 3-year and 5-year figures are annualized. A scheme whose plans disagree with each other, or whose quarterly move is past ±60%, is left out of the medians as a data fault.
