Q&A highlights

What caused the temporary slowdown in FC, how was it fixed, and what are the learnings for future games?

Andrew Wilson explained that slowdowns are not unnatural for large franchises, especially after periods of high growth (COVID, World Cup, FC rebrand). The issues were: 1) lower migration from FC24 to FC25 among new players, and 2) core competitive players found gameplay too defensively tuned. Fixes included personalized marketing to incentivize migration and a major gameplay update based on community feedback. Learnings involve closer work with core cohorts and better incentives for annual transitions.

“The first is we've been growing exceptionally well year-over-year throughout the history of the franchise but certainly through COVID and since COVID. And so we grew a lot. We brought in a lot of new players during COVID and grew the business meaningfully.”

Detailed narrative

EA SPORTS FC Rebound and Mobile Growth

After a Q3 slowdown, EA SPORTS FC saw a significant rebound in Q4, with net bookings well above expectations and player engagement up double digits following a major January gameplay update. FC Mobile continues to exceed expectations, with engagement and acquisition up YoY, driven by hyperculturalization and a web store launch.

The mobile game is expanding reach into new markets, with its 4 largest markets differing from HD markets, demonstrating its role in global audience expansion.

American Football Ecosystem Strength

The American Football ecosystem, including Madden NFL and College Football, achieved over $1 billion in net bookings for FY25, up over 70% YoY. Q4 saw strong post-season engagement, with weekly active users higher than the fiscal year average. The NFL Draft was leveraged to drive ongoing engagement, connecting Madden NFL and College Football, aiming to connect with fans 365 days a year and drive player retention.

The Sims Franchise Expansion

The Sims celebrated its 25th birthday with double-digit YoY net bookings growth in Q4, marking its best Q4 performance ever. This was driven by a new expansion pack, rerelease of legacy titles, and creator-made kits. The long-term vision is to transform The Sims into a unified ecosystem across games, marketplaces, and social spaces, empowering a new generation of creators and players to shape culture, community, and commerce.

New IP Success and Pipeline

Split Fiction, a new IP from Hazelight Studios, launched strongly in Q4, selling nearly 4 million units and overperforming expectations. Looking ahead, EA plans to launch Skate (with early access) and Battlefield in FY26. Battlefield is undergoing extensive playtesting via "Battlefield Labs" with over 600,000 sign-ups and 350 million content views, aiming for a full worldwide launch later this summer, backed by the largest Battlefield team in its history.

Strategic Focus and Operational Discipline

FY25 was a pivotal year for EA, marked by decisive actions to realign resources, manage costs, and focus on key opportunities. The company learned from Q3's challenges to sharpen operational discipline and strengthen execution, resulting in expanded margins and strong free cash flow.

This focus positions EA for strong growth in FY26 and beyond, driven by live services, new game launches, and global fandom, with conviction in its financial margin framework.

AI as a Creative Accelerator

EA views AI as a powerful accelerator for creativity, innovation, and player connection. The company is investing in new workflows and capabilities to integrate AI for enhancing game building, scaling, and personalizing experiences, from dynamic in-game worlds to authentic athlete likenesses at incredible scale. Developers are using AI to push boundaries in design, animation, and storytelling, unlocking new possibilities for interactive entertainment.
