Sector analysis: which Indian sectors grew earnings in Q1 FY27
Each sector is its 20 largest companies by market cap as they stood at each quarter-end, so a company counts only in the quarters it was actually among them. Tap any cell to see the companies behind it and how each one grew.
Earnings growth, quarter on quarter
Q1 FY27: 10 of 22 sectors grew earnings quarter on quarter; fastest Media, Entertainment & Publication +54%, slowest Oil, Gas & Consumable Fuels −47%.
Each cell is the change in the combined owners' profit of the sector's top 20 companies, divided by the size of their combined base profit (a loss counts at its full size, so the figure stays finite). The ₹ figure under it is their combined net profit that quarter, in crore. Compared with the previous quarter. “x of y up” counts the companies whose figure rose. Latest quarter Q1 FY27, ended 30 Jun 2026.

Earnings growth quarter on quarter for each sector's top 20 companies, by quarter, sectors in rank order
Members: the 20 largest companies by market cap in each sector at the close of each quarter-end, with every listed share class of a company counted once. SME, REIT, InvIT and ETF listings are left out. A sector is today's classification, applied to every quarter.
Earnings: owners' profit as filed, including one-off items. The sector figure is the sum of the changes divided by the sum of the base profits taken at their full size, so a loss in the base cannot make it infinite.
EPS: restated to today's share count after bonuses and splits; the median uses only companies whose base EPS was positive.
Price: weighted by market cap at the start of the period, with membership fixed then, so a company that joined because its price rose does not inflate the return.
Each company-quarter is checked against a second source. Where the two disagree the figure is left out of the sector and marked; where only one source exists it is used and marked.
