What Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Limited does

SCILAL was carved out of The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) in a 2023 demerger and holds the non-core real-estate assets — residential apartments, office space and land — that SCI previously owned. It earns income mainly by leasing these properties back to SCI under a framework agreement, and by leasing surplus space to others at market rates. Its second business is the Maritime Training Institute (MTI) at Powai, Mumbai, which trains seafarers and cadets for the shipping industry. Day-to-day operations of both businesses are currently run by SCI staff under a service-level agreement, as SCILAL itself has only a handful of personnel deputed to it directly.
