Camlin Fine Q1 FY27

Revenue ₹519.9 cr +28%EBITDA Margin 4%

What went well

  • Overall revenues of ₹519.9 crores (INR 5,199 million), up ~28% YoY and almost ₹100 crores QoQ.
  • Specialty Ingredient business generated >₹400 crores (INR 4,000 million) in revenue, maintaining a 20% run rate.
  • Achieved 95% customer approval for ethyl vanillin, indicating successful product ramp-up despite initial caution.

What to watch

  • Overall EBITDA margins compressed significantly to 4% in Q1 FY27 from +45% last quarter, mainly due to high raw material and freight costs.
  • Aroma segment recorded a negative burn of ₹4-4.5 crores, attributed to low capacity utilization (25%) during the ethyl vanillin campaign.

What Camlin Fine does

Camlin Fine Sciences manufactures specialty chemicals across four lines: antioxidants (Straights) and forward-integrated antioxidant blends used to extend shelf life in food, feed and pet food; performance chemicals derived from hydroquinone and catechol used in petrochemicals, dyes, polymers and agrochemicals; and aroma ingredients, chiefly vanillin and ethyl vanillin, sold into food, flavours & fragrances and pharma. The company runs a vertically integrated chemistry chain (phenol into hydroquinone/catechol into downstream derivatives), captively consuming intermediates to feed its own Straights, Performance Chemicals and Aroma Ingredients businesses. It operates through regional units in India, Mexico, Brazil and North America, plus recently acquired natural-ingredients businesses Vitafor and Vinpai (France), serving customers across food & beverage, animal nutrition, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and personal care industries worldwide.

  • Blends Business Growth Rate missed said Q2 FY25 Promised: 20% per year for the next couple of years Q1 FY27: Historical promise, missed in FY26. Focus has shifted to new FY27 targets for the broader 'Specialty Ingredients' segment.
  • Vanillin Volume revised down said Q3 FY26 Promised: 4,000 metric tons in FY27 Q1 FY27: So basically, we had guided for 3,600 to 4,000 and now we are saying 3,000 around 3,000. The change is due to a slower ramp-up of ethyl vanillin for quality assurance.
  • Blends Business Growth on track said Q3 FY26 Promised: 25% growth over FY26 Q1 FY27: Management guided for 20-30% growth in the Specialty Ingredients segment for FY27, which includes the blends business, keeping the original target in range.
