C P C L Q4 FY26

Crude Throughput 11.71 MMT Crude Throughput 2.93 MMT GRM 9.2 $/bbl GRM 13.75 $/bbl

What went well

  • Highest ever crude throughput of 11.71 MMT for FY26, equivalent to 112% of installed capacity, breaking previous records.
  • Q4 FY26 crude throughput of 2.93 MMT, also 111% of installed capacity, demonstrating agility in operations.
  • Achieved best fuel and loss of 7.73%, best MBN of 69.8%, and best EII of 84% for FY26, driven by energy conservation and operational reliability.

What to watch

  • Uncertainties due to logistical constraints and volatility of crude oil prices continue to pose challenges.
  • Geopolitical events, including the Strait of Hormuz closure, caused short-period disturbances to 30-40% of Middle East long-term crude contracts, though suppliers assured commitments.

What C P C L does

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) is a public-sector refiner and a group company of Indian Oil Corporation, operating a fully integrated fuel, lube-base-oil, wax and petrochemical-feedstock refinery complex at Manali, Chennai, plus a smaller refinery at Nagapattinam. It processes a diversified crude basket (term Middle East, spot Russian/West African, and indigenous crude) into fuels such as LPG, motor spirit, ATF, diesel and speciality products including paraffin wax, mineral turpentine oil, food/pharma-grade hexane and petrochemical feedstocks, marketed largely through IOCL. It also supplies defence and space-grade fuels (Navy NATO diesel, JP-5, missile fuel 'Vajravega' and rocket propellant 'Isrosene') and acts as a 'mother industry' feeding petrochemical feedstock to downstream units (TPL, CETEX, MPL, Kothari Petrochem, Lube Oil Base Stock unit) clustered around its Manali site.
