What Coal India does

Coal India is a government-owned Maharatna enterprise and India's dominant coal producer, mining and selling raw and washed coal. It operates through seven coal-producing subsidiaries plus the directly-run North Eastern Coalfields, with CMPDIL providing mine planning and consultancy. It earns primarily by selling coal to power and non-power buyers under long-term Fuel Supply Agreements (FSA), through e-auctions, and via washed coal, and is diversifying into solar and thermal power, coal gasification, and critical minerals.
