What Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited does
Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE) mines manganese ore and iron ore from leases in Sandur, Ballari district, Karnataka, and runs a downstream ferroalloys (silico-manganese/ferro-manganese) plant, a coke oven plant and captive power units (waste-heat recovery boilers plus solar-wind hybrid renewable capacity) at Vyasankere, Vijayanagara district. In November 2024 it forward-integrated into steel by acquiring Arjas Steel, which manufactures Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel bars for automotive and industrial customers via BOF route at Arjas Steel and EAF route at its step-down subsidiary Arjas Modern Steel, at plants in Tadipatri (Andhra Pradesh) and Mandi Gobindgarh (Punjab). The group earns by selling manganese and iron ore, ferroalloys, coke, power and SBQ steel bars/value-added downstream products to industrial and OEM customers.
