What Sarda Energy & Minerals Limited does

Sarda Energy & Minerals Limited (SEML) came into existence on 2nd August 2007 following a merger, though its roots trace to a Raipur steel unit acquired in 1979. It runs a vertically integrated business spanning three verticals — Minerals (iron ore and coal mining), Energy (thermal, hydro and upcoming solar power) and Metals (steel products and ferro alloys) — with the coal and iron-ore mines feeding its captive power and steel operations. SEML sells commercial power to state discoms and industrial buyers under long-term PPAs, and sells pellets, sponge iron, billets, wire rods, HB wire and ferro alloys (ferro manganese, silico manganese) domestically and for export. The Energy vertical, anchored by the SKS Power thermal plant acquired via an insolvency resolution, has become the company's largest earnings contributor.
