Capital Small Finance Bank Limited Q1 FY27

PAT ₹41 cr +28%NIM 4.21% +4%GNPA 2.47% −10%

What went well

  • Gross advances increased to ₹9,074 crores, registering 22% year-on-year growth, led by MSME and other business loans.
  • Net Interest Margin (NIM) improved to 4.21% from 4.06% in the previous quarter and year ago, driven by deposit repricing and CD ratio acceleration.
  • Profit After Tax (PAT) increased by 29% year-on-year to ₹41 crores, with Return on Assets (ROA) at 1.3% compared to 1.18% in Q1 FY26.

What to watch

  • A slight increase in SMA-2 accounts to 3.11% from 2.71% was noted, though management stated it's being actively managed.
  • Historically flat deposit growth in Q2 and Q4 due to seasonality in agri-heavy states, which requires active management to match loan book growth.

What Capital Small Finance Bank Limited does

Capital Small Finance Bank began in 2000 as Capital Local Area Bank in Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur, and converted into India's first small finance bank in April 2016. It is a branch-led, retail-focused lender that targets middle-income households, farmers and small businesses across contiguous districts of North India, earning through a diversified, largely secured loan book (agriculture, housing/mortgage, MSME/business, corporate and consumption loans) funded mainly by a granular, CASA-heavy retail deposit base. The bank pursues a 'phygital' model, pairing its branch network with digital banking and payment channels, and distributes third-party products such as life insurance under a bancassurance tie-up with Edelweiss Life Insurance.
