Craftsman Automation Limited Q1 FY27

What went well

  • Aluminium segment is on a strong growth path with massive investments and capacities still coming into place, expecting growth for many more quarters.
  • New orders are coming in for both 4-wheeler and 2-wheeler segments, with some quick wins and others in development for FY28/FY29 production.
  • Kothavadi project is on track to achieve USD 100 million revenue by FY29, with potential to exceed this by FY30-31 due to new inquiries.

What to watch

  • The company is in a 'wait-and-watch' mode regarding accelerating capex due to global problems, despite strong Q1 growth traction.
  • Achieving Powertrain capacity utilization beyond 75% is difficult due to the seasonal nature of the business and the risk of stopping customer lines.

What Craftsman Automation Limited does

Craftsman Automation is a Coimbatore-based diversified engineering company that designs and manufactures precision-machined components across three verticals — Powertrain, Aluminium Products, and Industrial & Engineering — serving commercial vehicle, passenger vehicle, two-wheeler, tractor, off-highway/construction-equipment OEMs as well as power-transmission, genset/gas-engine and material-handling customers. It runs an end-to-end in-house manufacturing chain spanning product design, tool/die and special-purpose-machine design, aluminium casting (high-pressure, low-pressure, gravity and sand), machining, sheet-metal fabrication, surface treatment and assembly. Its Industrial & Engineering vertical also builds storage solutions — static racking, shelving and automated storage & retrieval systems — alongside high-end sub-assembly and contract manufacturing. The group has expanded through acquisitions (DR Axion, Sunbeam Lightweighting Solutions) and a European foothold via subsidiaries in the Netherlands and Germany.
