What Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited does
IREDA is a Non-Banking Financial Company dedicated to promoting, developing and financing renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects across India, established in 1987 under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It earns interest income by extending project term loans, refinancing, loan syndication, top-up loans and guarantee-assistance facilities to developers, manufacturers and EPC contractors in solar, wind, hydro, biomass, ethanol, waste-to-energy and emerging technologies such as battery storage, EV charging infrastructure, green hydrogen and smart meters. It holds Infrastructure Finance Company status from the RBI and is classified as a Systemically Important Non-Deposit-taking NBFC, and also operates a wholly owned subsidiary registered at the GIFT City IFSC. IREDA is a Navratna, Schedule-A Central Public Sector Enterprise majority owned by the Government of India.
