Balrampur Chini Mills Limited Q1 FY27
What went well
- Revenues improving across Sugar and Distillery segments, supported by higher sugar realizations and distillery volumes.
- PLA project progressing well, with ₹2,180 crore spent by July end and commissioning targeted for October (Lactic) and December (PLA).
- Expectation of 40% average capacity utilization for PLA from January to March 2027.
What to watch
- Potential government restrictions on B-heavy and juice diversion for ethanol in the upcoming season.
- Anticipated cane price hike, which will increase input costs.
What Balrampur Chini Mills Limited does
Balrampur Chini Mills is a Uttar Pradesh-based integrated agri-processing company built around sugarcane, operating across three linked businesses: sugar manufacturing (crushing and refining), a distillery business making ethanol, ENA and other alcohol products from B-heavy molasses, C-heavy molasses, syrup and grain routes, and bagasse-based co-generation of power. Ethanol is supplied to oil-marketing companies for petrol blending, and surplus co-generated power is sold to the state utility (UPPCL) and via open-market access once power-purchase agreements expire. The company is diversifying into bioplastics by setting up India's first industrial Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plant, converting sugar into a biodegradable polymer under its own brand.
