Fedbank Financial Services Limited Q1 FY27
What went well
- AUM grew 35% YoY to ₹21,136 Cr, demonstrating strong overall business expansion.
- Gold Loan AUM increased 77% YoY to ₹11,191 Cr, leading the growth across segments.
- Profit after tax (PAT) of ₹114.4 Cr, a significant YoY growth of 52.5%, indicating robust profitability.
What to watch
- RBI revised LTV framework for gold loans (effective April 1), requiring LTV calculation on total amount due, which is expected to result in optically elevated overdue levels in the near term.
- Negative direct assignment income of ₹13 Cr during the quarter, a deliberate choice to reduce reliance on direct assignment.
What Fedbank Financial Services Limited does
Fedbank Financial Services (Fedfina) is a non-banking financial company, majority-owned by Federal Bank, that lends to India's emerging self-employed and MSME segment through a network of branches spread across urban, semi-urban and rural markets. Its "twin-engine" model centres on two fully collateralized products: gold loans (against pledged gold jewellery) and mortgage loans (loan against property and small-ticket housing loans), with in-house valuation used for gold and income/cash-flow-based underwriting for mortgages. The company also originates and sells down part of its loan book to banks via direct assignment and co-lending, and previously wrote unsecured business loans, origination of which has been discontinued. It earns interest income on the loans it holds on its own book (AUM) and fee/gain income on loans assigned off-book to partner banks.
